12:51 am - Hi Livejournal!
Just figured I should post. I'm still reading and lurking on here, despite how fandom mostly seems to be elsewhere now. I am on tumblr, where I mostly just look at art and kitties.

I've had this journal since 24 July 2001, which is amazing. I was still in high school then. Now I'm finally out of college, working, and I bought a house. Which I actually haven't told anyone except one other person. Mainly cause it's an investment, and I'm not actually living in it. But hey, yay adult things?

I hope 2014 is a good year.

ACTA in a Nutshell –

What is ACTA?  ACTA is the Anti-Counterfeiting Trade Agreement. A new intellectual property enforcement treaty being negotiated by the United States, the European Community, Switzerland, and Japan, with Australia, the Republic of Korea, New Zealand, Mexico, Jordan, Morocco, Singapore, the United Arab Emirates, and Canada recently announcing that they will join in as well.

Why should you care about ACTA? Initial reports indicate that the treaty will have a very broad scope and will involve new tools targeting “Internet distribution and information technology.”

What is the goal of ACTA? Reportedly the goal is to create new legal standards of intellectual property enforcement, as well as increased international cooperation, an example of which would be an increase in information sharing between signatory countries’ law enforcement agencies.

Essential ACTA Resources

  • Read more about ACTA here: ACTA Fact Sheet
  • Read the authentic version of the ACTA text as of 15 April 2011, as finalized by participating countries here: ACTA Finalized Text
  • Follow the history of the treaty’s formation here: ACTA history
  • Read letters from U.S. Senator Ron Wyden wherein he challenges the constitutionality of ACTA: Letter 1 | Letter 2 | Read the Administration’s Response to Wyden’s First Letter here: Response
  • Watch a short informative video on ACTA: ACTA Video
  • Watch a lulzy video on ACTA: Lulzy Video

Say NO to ACTA. It is essential to spread awareness and get the word out on ACTA.

09:48 pm - More kitty pictures
Ahaha, I pretty much never have anything to say. So, when I'm update I guess it's about my cats.

Mocha's a climber/jumper.

To get up there, she jumps from the TV stand to the bookshelf, and then from the bookshelf up to the beam. To get down she jumps onto the bookshelf, and then to the kitchen table (quite a far jump).

I discovered this one day when I heard some really odd sounds of a kitty dashing around. I know what it sounds like when they're just running around the hardwoods--this was very different. Then I looked up. It looked like she was having the time of her life. When she came down by jumping onto the table, you could tell she was going, "WHEE!!!"

Since Murphy saw her go up there, he'll get on top of the bookcase, and stand up to try to look up there. He can't quite bring himself to jump though.

04:23 pm - Alley Cats and Angels
I don't normally do this, but this is a local cat rescue for me. They recently took on a neglect case and could use some money to help pay for vet bills. They made a chipin page for them:

You can read about the cats rescued and their condition here:

04:45 am - Hehe cats.
I love how when my cats are grooming each other, while it's wildly cute, it's less, "we're grooming and cuddling yay!" and more "God, stay STILL you fucker!" "Clean my ears!" "STOP MOVING YOU'RE RUINING THE MOMENT!" And then it degenerates into a fight.

Right now they're staring at each other. Mocha is looking pissed cause she wants to groom Murphy and be groomed. Murphy is occasionally kicking at her cause he can't stay still and wants to play fight. Sometimes Mocha flops on him and is like, "STAY STILL YOUR EARS ARE DIRTY, YOU HEATHEN."

And she just left in a huff.

I ♥ my cats.

03:58 am - Pic spam! (28 pics)
So, I haven't updated in forever. What has been up with me lately? Well, I got these guys:

They're awfully cute, aren't they?

They used to live at the barn that my sister goes to and were there for about four years. The person who used to take care of them moved, so my sister volunteered me to take care of them (she knew I wanted to foster cats anyway). Originally, we were just going to take them in for a little bit, but um, fuck that. They're mine. XD I've had them since about November.

So! Well, here's a rather big pic spam(and explanations).

Sometimes I wish craigslist wasn't the best way to find and post houses for rent.

Scammers usually will copy our ads, use our county's real estate tax records to access the names of the owners to create an email account, and then list it at a lower price. Usually people will notice if two ads are up for the some place and be able to figure out that one of them is a scam. Problem comes when the house is rented out so there's only the scammer's ad up.

Yeah. Someone got scammed and only found out a few days ago, after they were already here. They were so happy at first to happen by my mom who was checking the house out for repairs. Then they found out that they never sent my mom the money and broke down because they have no money and no place to live.

Please be careful when renting houses. It's easy to tell that a Nigerian banker who uses all caps and you just happen to somehow be a long lost relative, and would you please wire them your bank numbers? is a scammer. But these scammers are a lot more tricky, considering they're looking up actual owner names. And especially since some real estate companies do require a deposit to hold the house if you are interested, even before the lease is signed. If possible, always make an appointment or get someone to go to the appointment and enter the house yourself. If not, find a reputable real estate agent to do it for you. Yeah, I know most of you guys won't have a problem with figuring out if something isn't quite right. Just really bothers me that someone is using OUR ads to trick people out of their money.

Example of a fake ad: http://raleigh.craigslist.org/apa/1937162596.html

Yeah, I reported it. Feel free to flag if you'd like.

06:55 pm - Sooo
Anyone in the NC area want an indifferent black cat? He's not afraid of people or new situations. He's not super affectionate, but is mildly pleased to be petted once in awhile.

I don't know much about the kitty, like whether or not he's gotten shots and stuff like that. He is neutered. Supposedly he's on flea medication. We'll see tonight if I end up ichy.

His previous owners found him outside and had him for a couple of months. Their landlord doesn't want them to have it though. Originally they'd just gonna dump it at my sister's barn, so I took him home instead. I mean, seriously? He might have done ok, but most likely he'd just run off. Also, I don't know if he'd run away from the dogs there. The dogs there are fine with cats unless they run. When we had him in his carrier, he didn't seem too scared. Still. Now I got a black cat sitting in my room.

12:43 am - Day 2, imaginary friend
So. I never had an imaginary friend. I had imaginary kingdoms.

Which sounds a lot cooler than what I ended up with, trying to draw it out. I almost didn't post this, but eh. Oh well!

02:25 pm - Race fail book covers
Please please read this post:

http://bookshop.livejournal.com/1056528.html

It makes me so disappointed and sad.

I just bought 7 copies of the original hardcover with its non-white washed cover.

I'll give one to anyone who can't afford the book.

ETA:
I'm also giving out one copy of: Magic Under Glass by Jaclyn Dolamore
The cover is gorgeous!

Also, pretty much giving away on a first come basis.

All gone! :D

July 16: Shipped out the books! Everyone should have gotten an PM with the delivery confirmation or I commented and deleted it with the info for those I couldn't PM.

02:31 am - Dining Room
Due to my mom and dad(and probably sister) misspelling dining as dinning for years, and me having to correct it in file names, house descriptions and stuff like that, every time I see someone misspell it as dinning, I have to restrain myself from flipping my shit.

I can deal with other misspellings! But not dinning. It's dining! ONE N ONE ONE ARGH ONE! And the other secretaries at work don't notice or don't care when they're reposting stuff and I'm like, "How do you not notice? Correct it now!!" *freaks over a little mistake*

Yeah.

Dining. Okay?

DINING.

03:25 am - 4/01 - 5/21/10
I scheduled Harley to be put to sleep on Saturday. He had been relatively ok, not in too much pain, but losing his appetite and getting rather skinny. He couldn't walk as long either. I figured might as well put him to sleep this week before he got worse.

However, a few hours ago he very suddenly took a turn for the worse. He yelped a bit and was panty and in pain. After a few minutes he stood up, went to the door, and lost control of his bladder.

Since it was obvious he wasn't doing well, I decided to take him to the 24 hour vet and put him to sleep. He went outside ok, but ran off to the side of the house. And I guess that was too much, because I had a really hard time getting him to the car, and had to lift him into it, then onto the seat. By the time we got to the vet, we had to take him in with a gurney, which he found very alarming. I petted him and told him he was silly.

They took him back to put in the catheter and probably sedate him, and then brought him back to me. He was still very panty, but soon fell asleep with his head in my lap. It didn't seem like a very peaceful sleep, but once his breath slowed down to a normal-ish pace, I got the vet for the last two injections. First to put him into a deep sleep, the second to stop his heart. It was very quick, and he looked up once before it was over. He also gave a very Harley-ish burp, after his heart was stopped, which the vet said was the carbon dioxide escaping. I left when his ears started to get cold.

He wasn't in pain in the end and that's enough.

I'm relatively ok right now, which I'm kinda surprised about. I guess it's because I've had since March to come with terms, and already did some hard crying in the days leading up to this. I'm feeling rather detached right now.

I'm not sure why I'm writing this much about this, but my memory is bad and I just want some kind of record for him.

I miss you Harley and I hope you're happy, wherever you are.

12:40 pm - Harley
So took Harley to the vet today and the osteosarcoma/cancer has pretty much come back. It's not looking good. It's also spread to the lungs, but the tumor is the biggest problem because of where it's growing from, size, and the fact it's going a bit into the chest cavity and not just the outside. The vet is going to contact the ncsu vet school and get recommendations on where to go from there. There's probably not much else to do but to slow the progression. I'm not sure what I want to do yet besides the obvious make him as comfortable as I can.

I can't tell if this lump thing on my dog's chest is just because he's too skinny, but gaining weight and muscle in a weird way or if it's like, you know, a tumor.

Yaaayy Kim Yu-Na! I'm glad she won. She did such a great job.

And Mao Asada is awesome. :D

I really liked Joannie Rochette and Mirai Nagasu as well. They're both so graceful looking. (and Joannie's arm muscles ftw <3) I love how well all the skaters did in the last group actually. I wish Rachael Flatt got better scores, but ah well. She still did an awesome job.

And I'm pretty much just flailing over them.

I think I enjoyed the women's competition a lot more than the men's. Despite the sparkly awesomeness of the men's.
